Usha Zacharias (1961-2013) was a writer and researcher, who began her career as a journalist with Times of India and moved onto academics. She was Associate Professor of Communication at Westfield University, U.S. Her research focussed on the biopolitics of media, gender and citizenship in the context of fundamentalism and neoliberalism in India. Her works appeared in journals such as Cultural Dynamics, Social Text and several anthologies. She also served in the editorial board of Feminist Media Studies. She has directed a documentary film titled The Trail of the Rain Song for PSBT.
Usha will be remembered for her unfailing passion and humor that she combined to use as her analytical and creative lens for all her works. In her universe she had family, students, colleagues, butterflies, friends, plants and trees, and animals, but never used hierarchy to differentiate them.
